Western Australia has the largest coastline of any state or territory in Australia, stretching for 12 889km featuring a vast array of marine life and various ecosystems. The Department of Undersea Investigations is an environmental agency that has its home in the port city of Fremantle. The Department explores life above and below the surface of the ocean with research focused on the fragile relationship between humans and the marine environment.

The primary goal of the Department of Undersea Investigations is to gain a better understanding of the marine environment and the creatures that inhabit it.
